Yesterday was quite an ‘auspicious’ day as finally, our new DAP Bridge was open to traffic. With this new opening, the old yet nostalgic iron bridge of Jelutong was closed for upgrading work. I was able to be the few ‘fortunate’ ones to cross the new bridge upon its opening and how ‘happy’ & ‘proud’ to take a photo with my handset. Too bad we din get to ask our new MP of Jelutong, Taikor blogger Jeff Ooi to officiate the opening. At least cut a red ribbon also nice wat.
No one realli knows why the new bridge was painted red and white but the only good reason of being so is somehow, the contractor seemed to be able to ’sense’ that finally, the red-white DAP is coming to power in our tiny island state.
With the new bridge proudly span over the ‘poisonous’ Jelutong River, I believe it will only be a matter of time when the final few metres of Jelutong road be open to two way traffic. Traffic lights have already been installed on the junctions of CY Choy and Bricklyn (Gurdwara) Road. Once everything is in place, the old town areas of Cecil Street up to Nordin Street will see better traffic and certainly, businesses will stand to benefit as well.
