Homestay in Penang

Nowadays tourism is taking a new twist in the industry. Long gone were the days where people were able to be ‘spend-free’ whenever they go travelling. As the result, we can see the budget airlines are laughing their ways to the bank while the conventional types are suffering losses after losses. Even the ‘taikor’ of the aviation industry – the Singapore Airlines were not spared.

Equaling the hotel's standard?

As people go ‘BUDGET’ in their travels these days, a new concept of ‘Homestay’ is mushrooming all around the world and Penang, being one of the best locations for travelers in the world, is not spared from it as well. What is Homestay actually? I am not too sure about it but after googling it on the internet, I found this:

“Homestay is a form of tourism and/or study abroad program that allows the visitor to rent a room from a local family to better learn the local lifestyle as well as improve their language ability.”

Anyway, I think the local operators of Homestay in Penang has a slightly different idea where they will rent the entire apartment or house to the guest(s) for a period of time for a sum of money and this “Homestay Fee” is normally much much lower than a normal hotel rates would charge. In another words, it means you’ll get a 3-room stay for a relatively cheaper rates if compared to you checking into a 4-star hotel! Splendid, isn’t it?

5 Star Homestay...

But of course, we have to bear in mind that if you pay peanuts, you’ll get peanuts as well. Therefore, the expectations of quality in what you gonna get in “Homestay” will definitely lower than the ones you’ll get in a hotel. There maybe no ‘housekeeping’ tidying up your bed on daily basis, no Internet or Wi-fi facilities and et cetera.  But with the change of travelers’ mindset these days, who cares anyway? Hehehe…

However, there are quite a number of high quality ‘Homestay’ available in Penang as well. Just check out these photos being posted here and you’ll find that for a little bit of extra payment, you may end up in some of the most polished condos situated in Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi tourist stretch on this island.

While the prime hotels in Penang island are still enjoying high occupancy rate especially during peak season such as festivals and school holidays, I am pretty sure more and more people are going ‘Homestay’ and who knows, it might be the new backbone of tourism for the future! Anyway, I don’t think it will pose a serious threat to the local hotel industry yet. There are still many people who will still prefer the luxuries being offered by the hotels.

Come with a complete kitchen as well!

Hmmm… seems good and sounds nice? Want a taste of Homestay the next time you visit Penang? Don’t worry… just log into this website for more information on Homestay or Apartment Stay in Penang. Perhaps you can tell the operator you are being recommended by new dawn for penang and who knows, you might some discount! lol… 😀

Penang Panthers moving house

Recently it is reported that our Penang Super League team will move its home matches to be played in State Stadium in Batu Kawan as the floodlights in City Stadium are not working properly. Seems that not only our team is not working well, even the lights have refused to work! 🙂

Lying 2nd in the Super League table (count from the back lah!) the Penang State team has been dishing out PATHETIC performances since the season kickstart some time ago. Fans shunned the team and most of the matches were played in an almost empty stadium! Poor poor Penang panthers. Where have your fangs gone? Where is our Kramat Roar?

HUH? Kramat wat??? Gone were the days when our grand old City Stadium virtually ROCKED by the famour Kramat Roar. When the tiny old velodium was packed like sardine. The terraces were filled with people of all races – cheering for their heroes on the pitch who played with passion and commitment for donning the yellow and blue outfit.

We need REAL professionals to run the team. We need political figures to support the team from behind. We need our best coaches back! People like Moey Yoke Ham, Isa Bakar & Co should come forward and contribute to the state team. We should not compare ourselves with FAM who, due to infighting and incompetant political (+ one royalty maybe) figures at helm, has failed miserably on the international arena.

The rot has been too bad this time. It’s not easy to heal the damage in a few years time. But if we are willing to start all over again, to revamp the entire system of our state football foundation, I believe we are able to develop a strong state team in near future. With the correct resources and people to run the game, I strongly believe we will be able to ‘inherit’ the Kramat Roar to our next and next generations!

Watford 1 – 3 Chelsea : Young Blue Lions roar

chelseafcYesterday, Chelsea was staring STRAIGHT at the face of defeat before they were rescued by their own HATTRICK hero in Nicolas Anelka who scored 3 times in the last 15 minutes of the FA Cup match with Watford the Bees.

New interim manager – Gus Hiddink was on the stand to watch the match and I’d say this is one of the first time when Chelsea really ‘click’ when they play with 2 forwards in Anelka and Drogba. Maybe Mr. Hiddink really got the ingrediant for these 2 world class strikers to play together and here we are, giving Watford FC their footballing lessons where it’s due.

Nicolas Anelka
Anelka begins his three goal salvo at Watford….
There is another point in the match which I am proud of is the inclusion of young Chelsea lions in the squad of the match. We got Michael Ma5877240ncienne on the right back – putting more familiar stars such as Bosingwa and Paulo Feriera on the bench. Michael is a up and rising star in Chelsea rank and his talent was so apparent as recently he earned a call to the England senior squad by Fabio Capello.
Another rising star in Chelsea young lion is Miroslav Stoch (pic) where only at 19, was given the role to sub a Big Star such as Michael Ballack at 80th minute. So those to critics out there, don’t accuse Chelsea of only buying established stars while did not put any effort to build our own young players. Such inclusions of young Blue Lions would only pave ways for more to come forward and fight for a place in the first XI team.
One of the first few words by the new manager Gus Hiddink is “Our season is not YET finished” and I realli hope Hiddink will be able to revive the sleeping lions to capture the Premier League as well as the Champions League. If we can put the FA Cup in the pocket as well, hmmmm…. won’t it be icing on the cake then? 🙂

Today is Merdeka Day

Happy 51st Birthday to our beloved country though after 51 years of mismanagement, there is actually nothing to shout but for reforms and changes. 🙂

Well well, in case you happen to wake up early on Merdeka morning and happen to read this, you might be interested to bring your kids and family to Queensbay where for the first time, Pantai Jerejak is organising a Merdeka celebration and will be attended by all the big shots of the state. The event will start at 8:00 am sharp and I guessed it would be quite a fanfare there.

Anyway, hope that this time our Merdeka will indeed bring us out of so many many things which has make us lag sooo far behind our neighbours such as Singapore and Thailand.

To all my readers, have a Happy long weekend and Happy Merdeka day with your love ones. 🙂

One Vote for Pakatan, One Vote for Better Future

Wow… campaigning is FUN! Especially this is the first time I joined Taikor blogger Jeff Ooi in his rounds to garner voters’ support in Seberang Jaya public market.

As what Jeff told us, it’s time for Battle and we all need to make the necessary sacrifice. So up we were at 6:30 am as we need to gather at the market at 7:30 am. Never in my life I woke up sooooo early just to go to market but to my surprise, the Seberang Jaya market has already buzzling with plenty of activities. Indeed early bird gets the worm. You need to be early in order to get the best vege and meat.

It’s great to see the Pakatan works hand in hand with DAP and Keadilan doing their rounds to fish for votes from their respective communities. Here Jeff Ooi was seen with Dr. Xavier who came all the way from Selangor to assist Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim to fight the area of Arif Shah in Seberang Jaya.

Nurul Izzah was seen here talking thru a microphone here in a food court adjacent to Seberang Jaya market appealing voters to show their full support and come out to vote on Aug 26. She urged the rakyat to give her father a chance to serve the country and a clear mandate that BN is no longer able to relevant to the people anymore.

So folks, tonite there will be another ceramah by Jeff Ooi and Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Taman Ciku, Bukit Mertajam at 8 pm. Make sure you’re there!

Anwar Visit to DAP Ops Center

My eyes are dropping… want to sleep liao… but with a few hours more to go for Nomination Center, we were honoured to have our HERO Anwar Ibrahim visiting the DAP Operation center in Permatang Pauh just now in the afternoon.

Our CM Lim Guan Eng led the DAP team to welcome Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his visit here just now. Both are casually attired and mingled well with the grassroots. We should be proud and happy that Malaysia still have this kind of leaders who are down to earth and humble.

Hordes of reporters were paying attention to the press conference by the CM and the future PM. One guy from Berita Harian received ‘special attention’ as his name was similiar to our Hero of Permatang Pauh. Everyone laughed when DSAI telling him that the name is good, but the tabloid he represented was not very good – an accurate reference to ‘dirty tactics’ used by BN in this coming by-elections.

A Big LCD screen showing support to Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim in becoming the Hope of the rakyat – to declare independance or ‘Merdeka’ from BN corruption, BN double standard, BN wastage and etc.

Ooooooo… Pretty lass from 8TV. Sorry lah if you happen to see your face here. I know I put this up without your permission but we just can’t help to notice some pretty faces around us. 🙂 What to do… Roses among the thorns, definately stood out among the crowd, right? Somemore with those trendy specs, apart from the VVIPs, you’re next to the center of attention! hehehehe….
